Debanjan, an accomplished legal luminary and Managing Partner, has etched his name in the annals of India's legal landscape, with a remarkable journey from apprentice to advocate, and from courtroom triumphs to boardroom counsel.
An alum and gold medallist of St. Xavier’s Collegiate School and St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, Debanjan had started early, joining the firm as an apprentice even before he entered Law College in 1990. In 1999, he enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of West Bengal and was admitted to the partnership, one of the youngest.
Today, he is the Managing Partner of the firm and a well-known name in India’s legal industry for his strategic advice in litigation and non-litigation practices. He has successfully represented in many high-stake litigations and transactions in India throughout his career. In his role as Managing Partner, he is committed to and responsible for the strategic growth and development of the firm. He also sits on the boards of several leading corporations in India, including market leaders in different sectors, from services to products, and his expertise and advice are also sought there.
Debanjan has represented Rajendra Singh Lodha in Krishna Kumar Birla v. Rajendra Singh Lodha (2008) 4 SCC 300, the Govt. of West Bengal in a petition against the Board of Administrator of KMC appointed during Covid-19, Mani Group in landmark Thika Tenancy dispute and many more such eminent groups. He has been recognised as ALB Super 50 Lawyers in India by Asian Legal Business (2022), and Forbes Legal Powerlist 2022 as Top Managing Partner (2022). He has also been featured in awards such as ‘A-List- Top 100 Lawyers’ by India Business Law Journal (2022) and the Xaviers Business Award for outstanding contributions to Law and Business (2023).
Some of his notable clients are R.P. Sanjiv Goenka Group, M.P. Birla Group, ITC Limited, Peerless Group, West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited, and West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation. Debanjan also serves as a director at numerous Indian and foreign listed companies.
