Overview

Sandip has over 22 years’ experience in the Dispute Resolution & ADR practice group, with a focus on government advisory and arbitration. He regularly represents Central and State PSUs, particularly those of West Bengal, in a wide range of disputes before the Supreme Court, the High Courts of Delhi and Calcutta, District Courts, and various Tribunals. His arbitration practice includes appearances before domestic and international forums, including the ICC Court. Sandip has acted in several significant matters involving infrastructure, energy, and regulatory challenges, and has a number of reported judgments to his name that remain binding precedents.

West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd
On successfully defending the cancellation of allotment of land under the Chairman’s Discretionary Quota before the Calcutta High Court and Supreme Court in a batch of 50 writ petitions.
On acquisition of land to set up the GITABITAN Township.
On the Alipore Area Development Project; drafted the deed for a 99-year lease and successfully argued before the Calcutta High Court.
On an application seeking compliance with the NGT’s Order directing rejuvenation of Adi Ganga and against conflicting development projects; strategising and defending the infrastructure projects of WBHIDCO before the NGT.

West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd
On a challenge before the Supreme Court against a Calcutta High Court order dealing with the applicability of Section 56(2) of the Electricity Act, 2003 and Clause 4.14 of Regulation 48 of the WBERC Regulations for levying delayed payment surcharge.
On successfully defending a writ petition by Jaishree Steel Pvt Ltd challenging the levy of surcharge on the ground of limitation before the Calcutta High Court and Supreme Court.
